Employees receiving T4 can also receive benefits quickly (2020)

During the second wave of the epidemic, many friends were forced to work from home again. The Canada Revenue Agency has finally formulated and passed a tax relief policy that is beneficial to employees who work from home!

The tax bureau stipulates that as long as you work from home for more than half of the time in 2020, you can get a fixed subsidy of up to 400 Canadian dollars without providing any evidence of expenses. If you do incur office expenses that are much higher than this amount, you can get a certain deduction when you file your tax return with the T2200 signed by your employer. However, the CRA has clear regulations on the calculation of actual expenses, and you may not have a fixed amount after the calculation. If you choose the "detailed method", in addition to calculating the expense ratio and keeping evidence, you also need your employer to submit a T2200 form. Unlike in the past, the CRA has taken into account the special situation that most T4 employees work from home this year, and has specially launched a simplified version of the T2200home office application that is condensed to only one page to simplify the application process. But it should be noted that if you still need to apply for other things such as car subsidies, you still need to follow the previous process. At the same time, like the temporary unified subsidy, this simplified process is also temporary. In addition, we would like to remind you to keep a copy of this year's T2200 form in case of tax audits in the future.
