First of all, a company registered in Ontario is a provincial corporation, an Ontario corporation. The company created is only a legal entity in Ontario, and your company name is only protected in Ontario; this is different from a federal company, which creates a legal entity across Canada with the right to do business anywhere in Canada, and the name is protected nationwide.

Here are the steps to register a corporation in Ontario:

1. Choose a name for your company.
 
As with a sole proprietorship or partnership, there are some restrictions on the name you may use. For example, you may not use words that suggest the business is associated with the Crown, the federal or provincial governments of Canada, a municipality or a municipal agency without the written consent of the relevant authority.
 
2. Perform a name search .
 
Unless you choose to name your company a numbered company, Otherwise your name must be searched by name , confirm that no one else has a business or registered trademark that is the same or similar to your company name.
You must submit a NUANS report on your company name along with your company application form.
 
3. Complete the company's registration documents (Articles of Incorporation)
 
You can complete your company registration documents online
If you prefer to file paper forms, you can purchase business corporation forms from an attorney, legal supply store, or name search company.
 
4. Create a cover letter
 
In the cover letter, you will need to provide the name, return address, and phone number of a contact person at the company you are registering. If you are registering electronically, you can complete the cover letter online.
 
5. Submit your application.
 
Your application must include the completed articles of incorporation, cover letter and current NUANS name search showing the name being searched, NUANS booking reference number and NUANS date, and the appropriate application fee.
The registration fee is $360 CAD if you submit your application in person or by mailing it through the official registration office. If you submit your application electronically, you will pay the statutory fee of $300 CAD plus the fees charged by the primary service provider.
